Course Description:
Sports is a specialty field of photography, which appeals to everyone from parents wanting to capture their kids playing league games to sports enthusiasts looking for commercial outlets for their work. Learn on-location in a workshop focused on teaching you the art of capturing fast moving subjects in often tricky lighting. You will learn how to improve your sports photos with equipment you already own. Topics include: lighting, shutter speeds, sport-specific anticipation and of course, hands-on practice!
The sporting events we use for our hands-on teaching techniques will depend on the season. These may include traditional sports like basketball, football, soccer, or volleyball games, track tournaments or even some additional opportunities to shoot more out of the ordinary sports like lacross, dodgeball or futsal. Shoots take place inside in the winter and outdoors in the summer. This provide students with multiple opportunities to get the most comprehensive overview of sports photography and the concepts and challenges with shooting various sports.
The concepts you learn can be applied to any sport. Our goal is to help you see things differently and learn from instant feedback from the instructor.
This is a second level course. Students must have taken the Fundamentals of Photography class, or its equivalent, and have a working knowledge of their camera.
"I took the Sports Photography Workshop with the knowledge that my pictures were ok, and just wanting to improve a little bit. WOW, I can't wait to start taking photos at my daughters sporting events, the difference is amazing. Who knew that a few clicks of the camera, and little bit of patience would pay off so much. I can't wait to take additional classes to learn even more. Thank you for an informative and fun evening!" -Heather Conroy, Recent Student
