Course Description:

Tiger / Photo by Jackie CurtsMost people do not get the opportunity to photograph brown bears in the wild or travel to eastern Russia to photography Amur tigers (if you even get to see one). At the zoo, you can learn to photograph wild animals in a safe, affordable environment. It is also a great place to practice your skills and techniques taking images of animals before encountering them in the wild.

While the zoo is a favorite place of many photographers to shoot, the barriers, enclosures and animal behavior can also make it one of the most challenging places to get good photographs. During Indy Photo Coach's Zoo Photography class, you will spend two days with Indianapolis Zoo keeper and photographer, Jackie Curts. Jackie has 25 years of experience at the Indianapolis Zoo and runs her own photography business.

Lemur / Photo by Jackie CurtsDuring this class, you will learn to shoot through glass and wire, get the best background when shooting the animals and discover the times to capture the animals at their best. These tips and insights from an experienced zoo and photography specialist will help turn your ordinary exotic animal photos into extraordinary captures.

The class is held at the Indianapolis Zoo and is comprised of two sessions, each of which is three hours in length. A majority of the time will be spent in hands-on learning while you visit exhibits with the instructor. Be prepared for a different experience in every class, as photo opportunities depend on which animals are on exhibit and their behavior and accessibility for shooting.

This is a second level course. Students must have taken the Fundamentals of Photography class or its equivalent, and have a working knowledge of their camera. The minimum age requirement for this course is 16 years of age. Participants must also have a reasonable level of fitness and physical ability to travel the expanse of the Indianapolis Zoo.

Zoo admission and parking are not included in the price of this class.

I would recommend IPC to anyone at any level. There are a variety of classes for all levels of experience to better your photography skills! LOVE THEM!!!!" -Lindy Scott, Recent Student
